Towers Watson

I saw this company during our job expo last February. Me and my friends were just wandering about, giving out resumes for internship, when I saw their booth. No one was there, so I went to their booth. I had no idea what Towers Watson was back then. It was only the first time I have heard of it, yet it left a big impression on me. I felt that I want to work there. During the summer, I googled the company, but I really did not get that much information maybe because I was distracted or something. So when Ms. Arcilla announced that we were going to have our field trip at Towers Watson, I was so happy! I would finally find out about this company!

Upon arrival at Bonifacio One Technology Tower

Turns out, Towers Watson is an HR Consultancy firm. They cater to the world's best and most influential companies. It is ranked as the number 1 company in its field. At first when I heard that it is an HR Consultancy firm, I thought that I might not fit in here. But as the speakers continue with their discussions, they explained that they also provide IT solutions to their customers' HR needs!

Towers Watson has a process called Requirements Analysis which I am most interested in. Since the scope of the work is just like our SAN-DES, I am sure that I can do well there. We had a tour of their office and one of the employees at the requirements analysis team showed their tool called JIRA. It is a communication tool for the employees and their clients, which are most of the time separated geographically. JIRA makes it possible for them to do a project despite the distance.

I am really glad that we did this field trip because now I know where I want to work!

Globe Field Trip

Globe Telecom is the leading telecommunications company in the Philippines, and we were fortunate enough to have a glimpse of how this organization works. This field trip is the most educational trip that I have had so far. I have learned a lot about what really goes on inside a company, and the role that IT has.

I was really amazed to find out that everything we have studied at DLSU, we really can apply in the real world! Our speakers have mentioned a lot of terms that I am familiar with because of our subjects. In a way it was some kind of assurance for us that our school has really trained us and introduced us to the fundamentals of our profession.

The speakers talked abut the organization, the processes that company applies, they also gave us tips on how to be appealing to employers skill-wise. Their discussions were so in-depth and really gave us an idea on what to expect when we graduate and finally land a job.

This was the first time for me to really see an IT in action in a company. This is when I realized that there really are a LOT of departments in IT! There are so many career paths to choose from, and this helped me with deciding which path I will take when I graduate.

Microsoft Technologies Seminar

Last Monday, June 16, we had a seminar held by Microsoft Technologies. The seminar was about Windows 8. The speaker showed the features and functions of Windows 8. The different thing about Windows 8 is that it has a start screen.

The user can customize the start screen and put applications and programs. Also, W8 uses tiles in showing the applications. W8 also  has a store where the users can download applications. W8 also uses Windows accounts so that the contacts and data can be accessed by the user using other devices anywhere.

I was a W8 user since last year. Until now, I haven't quite adjusted yet and I guess this seminar has helped me in discovering a whole lot more about the OS that I have been using. It made me realize that there is a whole lot more that I haven't known yet. Lots of applications and features I haven't tapped yet. This seminar urged me to try to explore W8.
